Himalayan Monal female

An old female bird which has recently started developing male plumage, apparently something that happens.

That's fascinating! I've heard of female Ring-necked Pheasants taking on some of the male plumage characteristics in captivity has they grew older; but I always assumed that it was a weird anomaly associated with inbreeding in captivity. I guess I was wrong again!
