Unfortunately they don't have underwater viewing. I took this pic before the zoo opened, so if you look to the right of the pic you could still see that it was barely filling up. The zoo did have a plan for a new hippo exhibit that would have underwater viewing but that plan was cut two years ago.
With how bad the economy is in LA right now, I doubt we will see anything new built after the Rain Forest of the Americas is finished. Maybe if the zoo goes private...
