That's interesting, as I personaly would prefer, for zoo animals, sand or wooden floor, rather than floor from concrete and/or water-proof syntetics.
Yes that is a wooden floor.
There was however concrete in other parts of the enclosure such as the small outdoor yard connecting this building with the main outdoor enclosure.
Worse that is no pool in hippo house! Hippos have only shower. It means that hippos couldn’t swim for six-seven months during the year. Hippos lived there since 1992.
LD, how many hippos you saw? On polish zoo chat I read that one female died two months ago, second was moved to France, to Beauval Zoo last week.
My information was incorrect. One hippo died but the second is still in Gdańsk (it means that zoo further looking for new home for her). Beauval indeed received female called Kiwi (the same name as in Gdańsk) but she came from Italy, probably from Parco Natura Viva in Bussolengo.
