Hippos could live to be in their 60's so he's kind of late middle aged. Although past 40 anything could happen to him. He could be here for another 20 years or die 2 years from now of an age related illness. His health will determine that. The girls are much younger at 28 for Petal and 23 for Perky. They should be around for a good long time sadly making breeding likely impossible for another 20 to 30 years unless a much larger hippo habitat is built prior to their passing. I know thats planned but its 15 years down the line best case scenario.
It always amazes me how hippos could bend that front leg under them like that. It looks as though they dislocate their whole shoulder just to get it in that position.
