You took this photo at the perfect time as it’ll be one of the last remaining photos of the original Common hippopotamus exhibit, which was replaced by a new exhibit in 1982.
Your photo perfectly illustrates how Motions Creek ran through the exhibit (the out flow is seen to the right); and it’s easy to see how Faith (1975-2016) made her escape three years earlier in 1977, when the water level of the creek rose sufficiently for her to float over the submerged bars (no doubt raised after this incident).
