I remember seeing photos of the awful tiger enclosures at Napoli a few years back, when did they move into the current enclosure? It looks to be a massive improvement.
A few years ago now....but first time I'd seen them (it's actually a complex of 3-4 enclosures). The whole place is a massive improvement compared to my previous visit 13 years ago.
Interestingly - as far as I could tell, nothing of the 'old zoo' has actually been demolished. The new tiger complex covers the area previously occupied by a series of hoofstock paddocks (same species still at zoo but now in the re-furbished 'Savanna' area - which was closed and derelict in 2010). All the historical structures still exist....either refurbished or unused. The only 'deconstruction' currently ongoing is in the area of the old (long closed) restaurant. I'm not sure if the whole thing is going to be taken down, but I believe the area will eventually be the site of a new chimp enclosure.
