I was in Izumi in January to see the cranes which winter there, and saw thousands of Hooded and White-naped Cranes, as well as a Common Crane and a couple of Sandhill Cranes. I came back through in March and went back out to the wintering grounds to see what was still around. The cranes which hadn't departed yet were the Hooded Cranes (only a few hundred of them still remained), but I also found a Common Crane sticking with this little flock of Hooded Cranes.
