I really love this world class Penguin exhibit!!!!
Thank you snowleopard for uploading all these great photos of such a great zoo!!!!

@animalman0341: You are welcome.:) The penguin exhibit in Seattle is the best and biggest that I've ever seen, and only the Bronx Zoo has won more exhibit awards than Woodland Park. It's not a flawless zoo, but I'm convinced that it is one of the very best in all of North America. That is why sometimes I come across as being overly critical on this forum...I just happen to live within a few hours of a truly excellent zoo and so I am used to animal habitats of an extremely high quality.

This exhibit does indeed look nice but for a truly spectacular exhibit I would like to refer to the Playa Pengüinos exhibit for humboldt penguins in Emmen Zoo.

I have to agree with you Toddy, as with all of the penguin exhibit photos from Emmen Zoo there appears to be a fabulous habitat for those birds at that Dutch zoo. I truly enjoyed seeing the natural substrate in the enclosure.

You are quite right about the substrate. The landscaping in the exhibit is faboulous and the penguins have both huge land and water parts. Though I don't think the Dutch here at the forum will appreciate you saying that Emmen Zoo is in Germany ;)

Cheers Toddy! I'm usually quite good with geography, but I was temporarily confused by Essen and Emmen.:)

Cool looking exhibit. I'm just a bit surprised by the high price tag. Where did most of the money go towards?

@Zooish: zoo exhibits have become outrageously priced these days, and I'm not really sure why this Humboldt penguin enclosure cost so much money. This photo shows less than half of the actual exhibit, which is massive in terms of penguin enclosures, and I'm sure that the water filtration system and visitor area (which is also rather large) were major factors in terms of the price tag.

Snowleopard - in the 2002 physical development plan, this exhibit was supposed to be the main draw of a proposed desert house. Has that plan now been scrapped?
