This exhibit is known as 'Penguin Bay', and was opened in 1988/89, for their breeding group of Humboldts. The old penguin pool was much smaller and was on the site of the current meerkat enclosure. However they still bred well in the old pool.
6 Rockhoppers were acquired in 1993. Only one pair remain from this group. I think they produced a chick in 2002, maybe also since then but I'm not aware of this.
The rockwork was added several years ago, previously there was a smooth wall at the back of the exhibit and an offshow nesting area.
