Hybrids of foster parents?

Not a good photo, but an interesting situation. In the Jungle Trail I saw a Spotted whistling-duck and a White-faced whistling-duck with ducklings. Are these ducklings hybrids or did the ducks paired up after hatching? Time will tell I guess.
