At the moment this animal is confined to a much smaller area than usual because it is winter so he can't go oustide but also because the indoor area had to be divided for the female and her calf to be given their own separate (off-show ) area. Thus reducing the male's area to a third the usual size.
After all of that, though, I do agree that they should be givin more enrichment, especially since the animals are in a smaller area for the time being.
Rubbed horns are not common for indian rhinos-it depends on what the zoos are doing with them to aviod boreness...
Yeah, its cruel to see rhinos still in small boxes during winter times, even in new houses, while giraffes and elephants have now almost everywhere large indoor exhibits....Zoos still have to learn how to keep hoofed animals in winter times.
When I visited in January it was quite cold, and there was lots of snow on the ground, but the Indian Rhino was out, and very active. Do they no longer let them out on some winter's days?
