Indianapolis Zoo - Dolphinarium

July 2008. The dolphin show here was quite impressive, and came with a strong conservation message.

The size of the dolphin pools (there are 3 that are connected to each other) are average, but the Dolphin Dome that is actually inside the pool is a must-see for zoo fans as no where else is that possible. There are plenty of below par dolphinariums like the ones at Brookfield Zoo and Minnesota Zoo, but for me the best of the best is at Chicago's Shedd Aquarium. I believe that the dolphinarium there is the largest indoor mammal pool on the planet, and the view of Lake Michigan in the background is stunning. A while ago I uploaded a few photos of Shedd Aquarium here on ZooBeat if you'd like to check it out.

@snowleopard Small correction here: there are actually four connected pools.

As for my opinion, I would say that the size is above average. Main (show) tank 136x57 ft and 27 feet deep -- I would say for bottlenose dolphins 27 feet deep is significant and a greater depth than Seaworld often gives its Dolphins, but correct me if I am wrong -- not to mention the three back pools, 18 ft deep each. The facility on a whole is more than 2 million gallons of filtered seawater.
