Interestingly, this is specifically built for hemimetabolous insects - phasmids, mantids, cockroaches, grasshoppers and crickets - species that grow from nymphs to adults through a series of instars rather than the holometabolous route of egg-larva-pupa-adult.
A few other invertebrate species (including spiders, millipedes, snails and butterflies) are found elsewhere in the zoo.
