Milkiness can be caused by a bacterial 'bloom'. These sometimes occur in newly established aquatic systems before a proper balance of micro-organisms becomes established. The recent mild weather might encourage this sort of process.
Yes I have noticed that one (I've never been to Flamingoland). I assumed it was due to the sticky clay in that part of the park and the stocking and water movement in that pond.
And you were suggesting you may venture across the Pennines to visit some new place or other when Flamingo Park/Land has been bringing zoology to Yorkshire for over 53 years! The cut-price winter season at Kirby Misperton (ooh, doesn't that name send shivers down your spine?) should be starting next month unless there has been a change of plan.

Having been born and bred in at the seaside, I have deep misgivings about 'funfairs' (and their unruly offspring 'themeparks'). That's why names like 'Kirby Misperton' and 'Chessington' do indeed send shivers down my spine. The only collections in Yorkshire that I have visited in the past 10 years are Lotherton Hall and Harewood, and it's been a while since I was at either of them. I'm having second thoughts about Doncaster too, although it would be nice to photograph a polar bear with a little snow on the ground, so I will take an extra cold rain check on that one.
I was out walking the local chalk downland this afternoon and noticed the big puddles are filled with the same milky-coloured water- so that's what I reckon it is. I was unaware about the use of the chalk boulders as lake edging at Flamingo Park till you supplied the pics.
Ooh, you used to live at the seaside but are now inland - I'd hate not to live by the seaside. I am no fan of the rides but the zoo at Flamingo Land is mostly distinct from them, although of course some do tower over the bottom part of the zoo and the water ride goes around some exhibits. The name "Kirby Misperton" just fills me with joy, so much so that I made a calendar of my photo of the bus stop sign there and named parrots "Kirby" and "Misperton".
I have abandoned Harewood since it cut back its collection so dramatically and much as I like Lotherton I have not been for two years. I had it on very good (experienced zoo professional) authority the other week that it is not looking its best at the moment.
