now very rare in southern mexico

Is that a Jabiru?
That bill made me think of a Saddlebill Stork, though the body colour is a bit odd for that.

It is a juvenile, according to the label. Sian kan reserve, which is a relatively near Cancun has the last breeding pairs of jabiru in Mexico, though they are doing much better in Belize.

it's not a Jabiru, and if it says that then it's mislabelled. It is a juvenile or immature Saddlebill Stork (and an apparently old museum specimen, given its appearance). The bill looks like it might have been artifically coloured as well.

I now recall that I saw saddle bill stork labelled in Barcelona zoo as Jabiru de Africa. This museum does have some very old specimens on display. Many animals came from Chapultepec zoo, but i do not know about this juvenile stork.
