Their exhibit still exists but has been empty for a while since the death of the animal inhabiting it (at least a year now). The only way to see the species at present is through the window in the Reptile Discovery Center that allows the individual pictured to sometimes be visible.
@DavidBrown also of note is that there is now a dedicated Japanese giant salamander exhibit in the Reptile Discovery Center. The Bird House is unfortunately still under construction, years later, with an estimated opening of late autumn this year.
@DavidBrown I think the zoo is looking good, despite the bird house still being under construction. The newer elephant habitat is great, the new pinniped habitats are really good and use the steep topography well to create both underwater and surface views, The biogeography issues of having Australian and South American mammals in the African loop have been resolved. The Small Mammal House, while some habitats aren't the best and some species are repeated, is still possibly the best in the nation. My biggest complaint remains their lack of using what space they do have available, i.e. old bear grottos, a portion of the North American trail that's completely blocked off but contains at least Bobcat, the old invertebrate exhibit, the yards adjacent to the elephants and behind the wild horses, the old small cat area. Still one of America's finer zoos imo, not quite one of the greats, though.
