If the colours are accurate, I suspect it may be one of the other jewelfishes - perhaps H. guttatus or H. lifalili. If you have decent images of both sexes, a few minutes on Fishbase may help you to confirm an ID.

I was originally going to ID it just as a Hemichromis sp., and then say wait until gentle lemur comes on because he knows cichlids well. But I didn't. H. bimaculatus is the only one I'm familiar with in New Zealand.
