Since the leopards are probabaly nearing the age of 20 i think that clouded leopards will replace them because the exhibit needs a smaller species and it was originally intended for them.
It is interesting how folks have been complaining about the size of this exhibit for years, and I wholeheartedly agree that clouded leopards or fishing cats would be a better choice. Also, Bronx is not quite the only AZA-accredited zoo with a black leopard as Topeka had one on my visit this past summer.

Naples Zoo (which I believe you have visited AD) has 2 Black Leopards as well. They might not have been there when you visited though. I think they were added in 2007. Their enclosure was mediocre as well.
