Is this an Australian-themed aviary (it contains superb parrots)? It's just a strange name to choose because Katandra is a tiny little town outside of Shepparton in country Victoria. Certainly not reminiscent of a rainforest.

I think there are probably a few Katandra place-names in Australia. The Victorian town is actually named after a station ("a ranch" to those not familiar with Australian terminology) called Katandra.
It's a vague Australian theme; I've written up a current species list below. It's still a really nice aviary though - lots of the smaller parrots were flying rapidly in flocks, and most birds show very nicely.

I imagine it must be difficult to keep tabs on the health of the specimens in an aviary of this size. It seems Loro Parque uses the Australian names for parrot species from that country, a policy that appears to be on the increase in the UK too. Sewerby's Superb Parrots remain Barraband's Parakeets though!
@CheeseChameleon2007 Yes - I saw a couple in Walsrode last week. Although zootierliste suggests Vogelpark Turnersee holds them too, it also lists the Loro Parque animals as the 'devittatus' subspecies.
