Kea Nestor notabilis

"Kea Encounters" are held throughout the winter months at the zoo, and during which keepers speak about the keas and their conservation efforts with the species. Donations towards kea conversation are encouraged during these presentations. The keas have been trained to deposit dollar bills into a donation box when visitors give them to them. Visitors are also allowed to have the birds perch on their arms - which I did this evening. There are only 36 keas currently in the United States, of which 11 are kept at the Cincinnati Zoo.
