Chlidonias 13 Jul 2020 King Dick was the first animal at Wellington Zoo (in 1906) and he lived until 1921. I suspect the taxidermist had never stuffed a lion before because the results are somewhat cartoonish.

Chlidonias 13 Jul 2020 @SivatheriumGuy - I think that is where the fur has worn off and the dark areas are the skin (the mount is just under a century old).
