This is the best area to watch their Gorillas! They always seem more visible and active here(the Kitchen Garden enclosures) than in the two newer enclosures near the Entrance. Also you are very close to them here and there always seems to be something going on.
I loved Howletts for a Park with quite alot of the 'Star' animals be it Elephants,Tigers,Gorilla's etc it was incredibly peaceful.
Something Aspinall wanted to achieve in his two parks and it is still there the sense of peace surrounding the animals.
Superb Park even though I didnt see many of the species I certainly preffered it alot more to a Zoo that has big glass fronted and immersion exhibits - Here the animals were happy and peaceful and were not being shouted at or follwed by the visitors they were further away but in a way i felt i was closer to the animals.
The feeling of the parks respecting these animals is huge and it is definately worth it.
One of my fondest zoo memories will be seeing the gorilla mother in the kitchen garden enclosures tending to her infant clinging to her chest, when one of her older children came along wanting attention. Holding her baby under one arm, she reached the other one over and started tickling the 'toddler' much to his delight. (See this pic) Like the good side of humans.
And I agree with you there Riziki. The only other place I found that kind of serenity was at Cotswold.
A breath-taking experience happened to me while I was walking down towards the Elephants back by the Rhino's and It was a great Summer Evening around 5 ish and one of the Tiger's 'Little Boy' starting Roaring the sound being carried through-out the estate.
A feeling of being surrounded by animals with this belonging to them and not us flowed around me. It was a fantastic experience
Sadly very late August Little Boy was put down due to health problems in his old age. He was 21 and was a fifth generation Aspinall Tiger.
He will be missed.

there is definitely a serenity at the Aspinall parks , my fondest memory of the Aspinall parks was observing the gorrillas and the various species of primates , it was also a real treat to see the sumatran rhinos and chimpanzees while they were there
