Hippocampus capensis.
This endangered species is only found in 3 estuaries in the Eastern Cape. It is bred regularly in this aquarium, but it is only on show in one other aquarium, also in South Africa.
It is a relatively small seahorse, but I was surprised by the way it could quickly change colour from black to yellow. The white and black shapes in the background are small shrimps and their shadows, as the seahorses had just been fed.
