Koala Exhibit

Opening in a few weeks.
So, the zoo has installed a large plexiglass barrier AND mesh? I wonder if that plexiglass is permanent, as this setup is light years away from San Diego's open-viewed Koala exhibits and the views are not the best here. And that's not even mentioning the bare cement floors and couple of tree branches. I might sound harsh, but I was expecting a lot more for all of Brookfield's advertising and promotion.

@snowleopard I don't get the need for the plexiglass either. Viewing should be easier in the indoor exhibits at least. A fairly basic accommodation, but you really don't need to reinvent the wheel with koalas and they'll only be here for a few years.

@MeiLover A layer of mulch and some shrubs would go a long way, but I'm not expecting much more to be done prior to opening. I'd be happy to be proven wrong however.

It's possible this will not be the koala's long-term exhibit either. If the Australia renovation takes place in the next year as planned, they could build a better Koala habitat in that project and this space could revert to use for the lemurs that are currently in Clouded Leopard Rainforest. I suspect this is the plan because the lemurs are out of place where they are and we initially saw the Koala image on a banner mentioning the Australia reno. Brookfield may also want to see if the Koalas prove popular enough with guests to be worth a longer-term commitment.
