I visited Wuppertal Zoo in 2002. Considering that bears often have the worst exhibits in any zoo, the Wuppertal Kodiaks actually have a rather nice one (even if the Polar Bears are not as lucky, although their exhibit is newer I think). And Wuppertal is a zoo that, until very recently, had unacceptable facilities for both its big cats and apes.

The polar bear exhibit is almost more than 70 years old...

OK so I must have misunderstood the person who told me this.

Could it be that the exhibit was renovated around 1995? Because I remember him telling me in 2002 that the exhibit was only seven years old. So either he didn't speak clearly or I misunderstood him (a German zoo enthusiast)

The exhibit was "renovated" in 1994, renovated means that they build in the underwater view...
