we are hoping they will eventually, but at the moment no. There have never been Komodo dragons in NZ, but there are some in Australia (adults as well as recently imported young ones).

What sort of messages are the zoo staff members leaving on the wall behind?
"Don't feed the animals"?
"Don't tap on the glass"?

I only had a quick look and I can't remember. I think they were about what they like best about working at the zoo and that sort of thing.

If Komodos were brought to Wellington, I wonder where they would house them? The elephant house once held fruit bats, and I think that the nearby aussie aviary did too... how 'bout those? I think they could be slightly refurbished for the job.

the elephant house is now a cafe, and the Australian aviary is an aviary. Neither could be used to house Komodo dragons.

I did say "refurbish"... I mean, the aviary could be given solid walls and a glass ceiling, and it could work. Otherwise, where do you speculate they'd place the enclosure?

the aviary is not large enough to house Komodo dragons. I'm not sure if there are any photos of it on here.
