*Based on a paper published by Moritz and Britz in 2019 (https://www.researchgate.net/public..._extant_Polypteridae_Actinopterygii_Cladistia), Polypterus bichir lapradei is no longer valid, as well as every other subspecies that exists. However, many, many, many people have scrutinised the authors about the paper, and even go so far as to say that they, "spat in the face of ichthyologists for their lazy work."
The findings of this paper was based on morphology of museum specimens alone, and no DNA was analysed for this study.
I myself do not regard this "revision" as credible, and as such will continue to refer to them as Laprade's.
