Leipzig Zoo - Gondwanaland map

A map over the new Gondwanaland in Leipzig Zoo. A simply fantastic exhibit!
Thanks for posting these shots, it looks amazing.
One question, are there things you can only see by taking the boat ride or is everything also visible by walking around the dome?

I was curious about this too and found a Youtube video of the boat tour. It looks like the boat tour starts off as a "Pirates of the Caribbean" type dark ride through some dark tunnels. I can see some dinosaurs and hear some chain saws, but cannot figure out what this is about as the narration is in German and the video doesn't pick up the show elements. The tour then goes out into the main building and looks like the "Jungle Cruise" at Disneyland except as far as I can tell the people in the boat don't see any of the animals except for a group of ducks at the end (don't know the species). Hopefully this boat tour is atypical in terms of not seeing the animals.

Well it seems that all they saw were ducks and some very lush planting (some of which looks too close to the boat and will be pulled of by some fools) , maybe they were just unlucky on that trip or the animals are still wary of the boats as it's a brand new dome.
There is also a boat ride at Zoom (but outdoors), and to tell the truth it's not worth going on as you see much more by just walking.

Seems like this is a very popular addition to the zoo, but I wonder how many extra visitors they need to re-pay the millions of euro's it must have cost.......

You can see more than the ducks, but nothing else is free-roaming as yet.

From the evidence of the two days I was there, they are getting those extra visitors. The second day (a Saturday) the zoo as a whole, and Gondwanaland in particular, was almost unbearably busy in the middle of the day.

Thanks for the great info here, very helpful.
I take it that there must be a restaurant in there somewhere to help pay for things?

Yes, and a very pleasant restaurant too (not least because the restaurant and shop are air-conditioned, and offer a pleasing respite from a giant tropical house in central European late summer!).

Have a look at 04:30....
