It's a great enclosure - looks even better when the grass is tall and dry like in the photo. This was taken from a moving bus (drives through the enclosure), but they now have a viewing platform that looks out over the enclosure too.
The funny thing is that you can see (feral) rabbit warrens inside the enclosure. Keepers tell me that the rabbits only ever come out at night (when the lions are in their quarters) - they learned pretty quickly that coming out during the day makes them the target of some much unwanted attention by some rather large cats - that would be fun to watch.
How many animals do they keep in this enclosure? At the Reserve Africaine de Sigean in France they lion exhibit is 10 hectare's in size and they keep 15 lions in their pride.
The enclosure is used by two males, four lionesses and a half grown female cub. They don't all use the enclosure at the same time though as the older male has struggled to integrate with the females.
