@pipaluk Differences of opinion on LoL aside, this is significantly smaller than the old Lion Terraces. The only comparable exhibit I can think of in a major European zoo is Heidelberg, who've been talking about an expansion for years without apparent progress.
@snowleopard Given the latency of Artis's jaguar exhibit, I wouldn't hold your breath
@Giant Panda
Does this enclosure hold a breeding group of pure Lions? If not, I stand by my comment. If it holds a breeding group, send them elsewhere, fill in the moat put a fence & some glass viewing for a small bear maybe.
@pipaluk I don't know about the demographics, but zootierliste suggests generic. We'll have to agree to disagree on the acceptable size/structure for lion/bear exhibits. For what it's worth, I think the evidence (recent in the lion case) is on my side.
@Giant Panda
I won't bother taking it any further and bow to your obviously superior knowledge as I haven't seen this enclosure, but land of the Lions at London was a total waste of £6M I stand by that! Lions don't need a massive exhibit in a city zoo, if it's considered that they do, don't bother with them, as they're a poor exhibit for the space people seem to demand!!
@pipaluk No need to be sore. If you don't keep up with the research, I would be (and am) more careful about proclaiming this or that exhibit acceptable (or unacceptable). And the recently published lion study is too narrow to be anything more than a word of caution. Out of interest, what price-tag would have stopped you complaining?
@Mr Gharial will this enclosure be complete in July or is already complete? I am going on holiday to the Netherlands in summer and I will be visiting Artis and Burgers.
