Was this identified as an Asiatic lion? I know when I was last there in 04 the signage indicated that they were Asiatics, but someone working there told me that they were actually Africans. Apparently the Asian lions died years ago and putting African lion signage in an Asian themed set of exhibits wasn't what they wanted to do.
All of the so-called asian lions that were formerly held in the United States were later found out to be asian/african hybrids. So even if it was labelled asian, it wasn't really (at least not pure).
I pulled out the original slide, and all I had written was "Lioness (Panthera leo)". Had the exhibit label said Asian, I would have labeled the slide as Asian too.
