They were back where they belong on the hill for a short time last year, but sadly gone again now.

When did they leave? I'm sure they were there in July and they were definitely there in Febuary.

The male died, and the female is off show, but I'm not even sure she is still at the zoo. They belong on the hill, either them or any of their 3 South American cousins.

I've always thought that mouflon, takin, ibex or the Barbary sheep would look good on the hill at Dudley. It has a lot of space that could be utilised for mountain ungulates which just sits empty and would look great with some animals on it.
(I know you're going for South American camels as they're a personal favourite, I prefer something a tad more unusual... :p)

Yes I do admit to a liking for any type of South American camel, but your ideas are equally valid, basically they just need to stick something on the hill as it is a big space just going to waste.

U
Think they plan on putting the geladas here

That's what I heard too, but they will look kind of lost in such a big space, unless they get a whole group of new members.

Time to bump an old photo... :)
Well it's a good job they got some fresh blood, the geladas make a great display in my opinion. The enclosure isn't too small either so there's room for further additions! ;)

Have to say I didn't see any of them on Sunday, so yes it certainly is big enough! I looked in the newly built indoor quarters and no sign either.
I was wondering if they could open up the side of the indoors area so visitors can get a better view looking up the hill.

The next question is will they put anything under the chairlift area, which is an even bigger empty space.

Well I was there Sunday and at times I too had trouble spotting them, the foliage helps to hide them I guess. I did get some good views of them before I'd actually entered the zoo though and they are quite visible from the top of the enclosure a lot of the time.

On a side note, maybe we saw each other on Sunday without realising it! :p Here's a photo of me to compare.
