Chlidonias

long-tailed broadbill (Psarisomus dalhousiae)

Kaeng Krachan National Park. A very heavy crop of a distant bird!!
In the late 1980-ties - beginning 1990-ties I took care for 2 groups of this beautifull species. At Walsrode we even had the world-first breeding with the species and also at Pairi Daiza we had nest-building pairs. It was also bred at Frankfurt Zoo and Copenhagen Zoo but 2010 the last European specimen died at Wuppertal Zoo.....

A similar fate for the birds in the US. They dwindled out at the same time, I think the last birds were at Toledo and Disney actually. I think the issue was maintaining the breeding. Hopefully some fresh imports will occur and these birds can be propagated more successfully, they are truly beautiful
