Wonderful animals; saw them at LA 8 years ago and again recently at Cheyenne Mountain Zoo in Colorado.

@Baldur - Yes, I really like this species. I first saw them at Cheyenne Mountain Zoo.

What do you think of Cheyenne Mountain Zoo.

@Black duiker & mstickmanp - what do you guys think of THIS Tapir exhibit??

Not the best exhibit out there because of size and the fact that it is a pit style exhibit, but I like that the tapirs have a lot of shade/tree cover, something that a lot of tapir exhibits around the world don't have.

I've always thought it should be enlarged, and hopefully, after the Rainforest habitat is completed, this whole section will get a makeover. It was rumored that the wall separating the Maned Wolves and Giant Otters would possibly be torn down, making for one enlarged mixed exhibit; Maned wolf/Baird's Tapir. And there has been recent talk of them totally re-doing the Jaguar enclosure. But being the space responsible for the first and most prolific breeding of Mountain Tapirs in captivity, its served its purpose well.

With Baird's Tapir probably the most likely candidate of tapir species for the Rainforest of the Americas, I'd welcome a mixed Maned Wolf/Giant Anteater habitat. They seemed quite compatible together on my visit to the Phoenix Zoo.
