?The leaves are always greener outside of the exhibit?. A rothschild?s giraffes (Giraffa camelopardalis rothschildi) in the Africambo section of Magdeburg Zoo. From 2010 the giraffe exhibit has been connected to the new Africambo savannah, allowing grevy?s zebras (Equus grevyi) and gemsboks (Oryx gazella) to also use this part of the exhibit.

The Africambo I area is the first phase of the new African savannah area opened in 2010. The whole area is 20.000 m2 and features many African savannah animals. The second part, Africambo II, will feature a new elephant exhibit.

The Giraffe House opened in 1991 and was built in 110 hours as part of a reality show. Probably a record in Giraffe House building speed.

Was the part of fence removed by humans, or broken by a giraffe?

No part of the fence had been removed but I can see how you would think that looking at the photo. All the spaces between the chain-links are the same rectangular shape and the giraffes can just squeeze their snouts through.
