Great shot.

I hope that you had a good visit to the LA Zoo, NigeW. Your timing is good as both the Tasmanian devils and the perenties are recent arrivals at the zoo.

Thanks David, I very much did thank you. It was an opportunity I didn't think I was going to present itself, so I was delighted to be able to visit.

Overall, it exceeded my expectations. There were some no shows of course - that's the nature of the game. Other things made up for it.

Did you get to see the red uakaris and the mountain tapir? What didn't show up for you?

No, and yes. The Uakaris were a no show, but I'm not convinced I could have got a decent look at them anyway, they seem to be only half on-show at most.

I saw the tapir - very much up close, but not in a position for photography. Record shot only!

I missed the indoor Australian section altogether, I'm not sure how on earth I managed that and am blaming the useless map with added jet lag :-)

There were other more minor no shows - bongo, entire elephant herd apart from the the tusker male, many of the outdoor reptiles; and many of the round house cages made photography absolutely impossible even when the animals within were showing extremely well.

It all in the nature of the game though. I'd just arrived in 90 degrees and beautiful sunshine from chilly blighty and I was delighted to be there to see many sights that were new or rare for me, with some decent photography in some places too.

I have to shout out the value too. $20 for full adult admission. What a bargain!
