There are additional behind-the scenes paddocks as well as some separation and training/treatment pens. The bull, Calimero, also has separate indoor pens behind-the scenes.

If they filled in that moat it would add like 50% more floorspace.. Bars would be unsightly, but the added space is worth it IMO.
