Malayan Colugo (Galeopterus variegatus)

Taken on 15th March 2025 in Nyungwe Forest Heart of Africa. This also happens to be my first official time seeing the Colugos in the aviary.

A pair of Colugos were on the same tree by the shelter beside the Starling Feeding area, nearly within arm's reach. The closest I've ever been to the species and they were quite active too surprisingly.

@Animal Does this mean Bird Paradise can be listed as a holder of Malayan Colugo on Zootierliste? On one hand, they cannot leave this aviary, but on the other hand, keepers do not provide husbandry for them.

@RatioTile Not an expert on how Zootierliste works, but personally I would say it counts as a wild animal. While it may be true that it cannot leave the enclosure, since it receives no care from the keepers, I would find it hard to believe that it would be officially recognized as part of Mandai's collection. This animal is no different from a wild squirrel or macaque that wandered into a zoo enclosure to look for free food (aside from the fact that this colugo is trapped).

They are the big example of wild animals that are not to be listed on zootierliste.
