A fantastic photo Bwassa! I would of thought Edinburgh would have got some females to build up their herd a shame they haven't yet. Does anybody know where this male came from? It seems West Mid's have lost a male so could he be from West Mid's?

In the former bongo enclosure, which begs the question are the bongo still at the zoo or have they been moved on?

The Bongo have left the zoo, unfortunately.

Very interesting. I was under the impression that Edinburgh were trying to breed their Bongo. Some notable species have left the Zoo over the last few months including Red River Hogs, Bushbabies, Cloud Rats and now Bongo. However, I would prefer a Banteng to a Bongo anyday.

Are these related to Seladong by any chance, I have just re read "Two In The Bush" by Gerald Durrell who describes a group of Seladongs in Malaysia they look rather similar.

The Seladong is the Southeast Asian Gaur (Bos gaurus laosiensis) whilst this animal is the Javan Banteng (Bos javanicus javanicus) - as such they belong to sister species.

Thanks TeaLovingDave another thing learned, sadly that may mean something old forgotten.
