New ape house.Chessington`s first male Gorilla in the old 67 house was Anduan bought from Konrad Muller, wild caught in the Cameroons, arrived 13/3/67, he died August 1968 and was replaced by Kumba bought 16/10/69 at 18mths old. The firs female Gorilla was actually Lomie, sold to Regent`s Park Sept 1969. Baffia/Bafia bought 16/10/69 at 12 mths old.

Yes, afaik Anduan and Lomie came as a pair too though Lomie was considerably older and larger. After Anduan died, Kumba and Baffia were bought to replace him. Lomie was sold to ZSL( I believe for £4000). I thought for a short period Chessington had all three but your dates indicate that wasn't so.

Kumba must have only used the new enclosure for about a year(the first time that is) before his move to London.

Lomie arrived in 67 with Anduan, was sold to London Zoo in Sept 1969, then went onto Bristol and Howletts, returned to Chessington 19/1/89 and died at Chessington of cancer suddenly on 17/10/90.
Chessington`s Kumba arrived 69 with Bafia/Baffia, he remained in the old ape house for the whole period of it` s existence. He went on loan to London 7/6/84. He returned to Chessington in 1995 when London`s Kumba died during dental work in 1995.
Male Assumbo arrived from Twycross when London`s Kumba was still there I seem to remember! But Assumbo was not there for long. He then went onto Czechoslovakia.

I saw Lomie at all of these places, including both of her visits to Bristol Zoo. The odd thing was I saw her the day before she died at Chessington- there appeared to be nothing noticeably wrong with her on that day.

I think Assumbo was 'tried' at Chessington to try and promote breeding- of course it wasn't a good idea given Baffia's issues and probably just made things worse. Twycross wanted to get rid of him by then too.
