Male Orangutan Portrait

Looks great but will he ever breed? Seems unlikely. No babies at Blackpool in many years now.

@Pertinax is it that he has trouble with the females or is it more a case of low/in-fertility?

@Jude T I am not sure. As a baby I know he was very weak, and also handraised but whether he mates or not I do not know. I think maybe not.

@Pertinax I think he spends much of time beside the window watching the visitors.

@gentle lemur He does. He's very humanised- when he came to Blackpool he was very young and probably completely dominated by the older females. I think that and his background probably affected him longterm. They brought in a younger female from Europe a few years ago but I don't know if that stimulated any mating or not. They have not bred any orangutans since before Ramon's time there.
