There was a manatee in the center pool that was recovering from being run over by a boat, and the wooden gates were lifted so the manatee(s) could access multiple pools. The conditions are not ideal in terms of space but Lowry Park Zoo has rehabilitated over 200 manatees in the past 20 years. Also, I'm sure that the close surroundings allows staff to better monitor injured animals.
