There were two full grown males at London in this period: "Sam" - who was a very big animal indeed, reputedly the biggest bear in Europe - who was sent to Munich in 1976; and his son "Pipaluk", who remained at London until 1985, and was sent to Warsaw when the Terraces closed. I wouldn't care to say which of them this is, although "Sam" seemed to carry more scars!

Interesting to note how on the Mappins the Bears were either seen above you(viewed from this level) or below you(if viewed from the top level) You never got to see them really at eyelevel. I remember the Whipsnade Polar bears though were viewed at eyelevel (through bars) as were the 'mixed bears' near the clock tower at London. While the Kodiaks at Whipsnade were in their deep pit- what a display they would have made in better surroundings!
