As zoogiraffe says, the Southern subspecies - or species if one's suspicions follow mine - is rather more robust than the Eastern; however they are still a rather small taxon. They are somewhat more showy and active when compared to an Eastern too, which makes it all the more a pity the taxon is all-but-gone from captivity.
As far as this shot goes, as well as presenting a size comparison, it's also a very nice demonstration of the overall phenotype and coat morphology of the Eastern; as it is from much the same angle as the following shot I have taken of the Southern it allows for a useful comparison of the two.
