Chinese Alligator. This exhibit has been abolished to make way for the new Reptile House
Chinese Alligator. This exhibit has been "demolished"(thank you Arizona Docent) to make way for the new Reptile House

I think you mean "demolished," not abolished (which would imply that is was outlawed because it was deemed morally reprehensible).

I wonder what happened to the chinese alligators. Are they off-exhibit until the new reptile house opens?

Thank you for that oversight Arizona Docent, I'm uploading photos for the first time. Demolished was the intent. I'll edit the post to save face.:o

And I've wondered the same thing about the Chinese Alligators.

I like the fact you can't see the water in this pic :p

Great visual interest in this photo due to the shadow on the pool floor.I have never seen this effect in a crocodilian shot before , as of course most pools are not so crystal-clear and make this difficult or impossible to capture in a photo.Well done.

Thank you. A shot I had noticed on several occasions during previous visits, but with no camera on hand. I'm just getting back into photography as a hobby, and will be carrying a camera regularly on future visits. Of course now this exhibit is no more, after being recently demolished to make way for the new reptile enclosures. And I probably won't get that opportunity for a crocodilian shadow again.

Maybe you will, as the American Alligators are in the former otter exhibit, which is similar to this exhibit.

True Mario, but that's only if they are not provided a state-of-the-art, underwater viewing area inside the new complex, as was originally planned for all the crocodilian species. Of course they still had the False Gavials then as well. And with all the changed plans for that building, including its location, we may not see half the original plans included. I'm hoping for better things for the Alligators than their current space. Going one step further, I'm hoping we're not totally overwhelmed with insects, and see fewer and fewer actual reptiles.:(
