I believe this is one of two remaining margays in USA. The other is at Exotic Feline Breeding Compound (with a far worse exhibit). Unfortunately the cat never left the perch in the far right corner. Both cats are mid twenties - incredibly old - so I imagine both will die in the next couple years and then no more in USA. Probably. However a couple weeks ago I had a communication from someone at an AZA facility (not one of the two mentioned here) who said there is a chance they may import a margay from Europe. It is far from certain but it's nice to dream.
@Arizona Docent Did they say why they were considering an import? Seems like an interesting choice, especially since "a margay" (singular) implies it wouldn't be an attempt to establish a breeding population.
@Coelacanth18 They did but I prefer not to say because it would likely give away the location and since it's all speculation at this point I don't want to spread any rumors.
do they still have margays here because I asked this question before but the person who responded (tinopup) said the last one died 7 years ago but based on this picture it looks like they still have had margays as of 2020
