You know I have not heard anything for a long time, so I have no idea. I had forgotten they even existed until I saw them here in Phoenix. I know many years ago they were introducing them into the Buenos Aires National Wildlife Refuge southwest of Tucson and the last time I was down there (maybe five years ago) I saw some breeding pens. I did not see any wild ones, but not that I was necessarily looking.

Good question and I would be curious if anyone knows.

Are the pinyon jays still with the thick-billed parrots as well?

Yes. The two aviaries are connected by a sky tunnel and the parrots and jays can be separated (if the tunnel is closed) or joined (if the tunnel is open). The quail are in the right of the two aviaries and presumably cannot cross due to the height of the tunnel. At the time of my visit it was open, but the parrots spent the entire time inside the tunnel and never entered one of the two main aviaries.
