May 2025 - Wings of the World - General View

Do note that this image was taken on May 20th, 2025 at the Philadelphia Zoo in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, USA.
I should’ve mentioned that on the day of my visit, this walkthrough aviary contained the following species:
  • Golden-Crested Myna
  • Indian Peafowl
  • Chinese Hwamei
  • Golden Pheasant
  • Spotted Dove
  • Scarlet-Faced Liocichla
  • Red-Whiskered Bulbul

You’re welcome Summer Tanager. For me, this aviary was one of the highlights of my visit; especially, since it had a solid collection of all-Asian birds!

Not that I’m opposed to the one-continent collection of species; it’s just I would rather call it “Wings of Asia” over “Wings of the World”; which is the actual name of this aviary.

@Austin the Sengi Thank you for the updated species list. Someone wrote a great summary of this aviary for ZooChat a few years ago when it first opened, and it seemed to be dominated by cold-hardy species like pheasants, tragopans, and Azure-winged Magpie. It sounds like they've made a few changes or they are rotating birds between seasons. Either way, there is plenty of bird diversity in Asia to support an Asia-specific aviary!
