The Meerkat enclosure was home to Ratel at the time of my first visit.

While Howletts has stuck with the monkeys-cats-gorillas-elephants-and-a-few-specific-ungulates Aspinall specialisation fairly closely, Port Lympne has been clearly moved to more general collection footing. As such, Port Lympne now has Meerkats, coatis, Red Pandas, crested porcupines, Giraffes, zebras and even (with the sifaka) Ring-tailed Lemurs. Not the most Aspinall-y of species. The Meerkats in particular they seem almost ashamed of, and they are tucked away in this obscure corner.

yes ive noticed port lympne have started keeping more common species , i was very suprised that they replaced the old ratel with meerkats , and i was slightly disapointed that they decided to replace it with such a common species kept in every other zoological garden , i didnt know about the coatis though
