whilst melbourne zoo, doesn't have the advantage of being built on a shoreline like taronga, and has less than half the number of marine species, i'm cautiously hoping this might be a great addition to the zoo.
melbourne are usually a little more understated than taronga with their developments, which i think can be a good thing. and in particular i like that melbourne has chosen to include some smaller marine species, like stingrays in what appears to be an outdoor lagoon.
the exhibit is also taking up a large portion of land that has never been open to the public before, essentially making the zoo larger, but most of all the marine precinct (which was originally called "stories by the sea" but is now being called wild oceans or something like that) is located in the middle of the unrenovated side of the zoo, which will finally give the zoo a "mostly" redeveloped status.
